The Rhodes Building was built in 1911 using ã100,000 left to Oriel College for that purpose by former student Cecil Rhodes. In the front façade is in the central bay a statue of Cecil Rhodes. Below the statue of Rhodes is a chronogram for 1911: e Larga MVnIfICentIa | CaeCILI rhoDes Out of the splendid generosity of Cecil Rhodes. It is believed Alfred Bertram Pegram London 1895 - 1939, was the British sculptor responsible for the work.
